ARMONK, N.Y., June 10 (UPI) -- IBM, which has headquarters in Armonk, N.Y., has created the world's first graphene-based integrated circuit on a single chip. The demonstration chip is a radio frequency "mixer" capable of producing frequencies up to 10 gigahertz and represents IBM's success in creating graphene-based integrated circuits that will provide "dual use" technology for systems such as cellphones and military communications, the company said Friday. IBM today launched its biggest array of new secondary storage products ever. The company announced new additions to its tape drive lineup along with enhancements to a number of backup and archiving solutions, including a new 3-exabyte tape library system that offers the highest capacity tape-based system in the industry. The IBM System Storage TS3500 Tape Library makes use of new, IBM-developed shuttle technology that relies on a mechanical attachment to connect multiple tape libraries to a single library. As a result, IBM claims that the TS3500 offers 80 percent more capacity than a comparable Oracle tape library.

The TS7700 Virtualization Engine is designed to provide improved performance and capacity to help lower the total cost of ownership for tape processing. The TS7700 Virtualization Engine introduces a new modular, scalable, high-performing architecture for mainframe tape virtualization. The TS7700 family now includes IBM Virtualization Engine TS7740 and IBM Virtualization Engine TS7720 (disk only) at R1.6.
